About
Hidden Forts came out of wanting to make something of my own after spending so many years working in and around denim.
The name came from the forts I used to build as a kid. I’ve always liked the idea of making your own little world out of whatever you have around you, finding your own space, figuring things out as you go.
From this comes the idea of Rugged Nostalgia - not as a style or aesthetic, but as the sensory memory of making things by hand: improvised construction, dirt under the fingernails, and the seriousness of childhood invention. It is a kind of toughness expressed through care, focus, and resourcefulness rather than force.
Hidden Forts is a clothing brand with room for the other things I’m interested in: vintage, collecting, music, photography, design, and storytelling. That’s also why I made the magazine. I wanted there to be a world around the clothing, rather than just putting products on a website.
A lot of the visual inspiration comes from things I grew up with and have always been drawn to: old denim and workwear, BMX and skate culture, the 70s-90s, old catalogs and magazines, and the simplicity and resourcefulness of things made by hand. I’m not trying to reproduce any of that literally. It’s more about taking those influences and seeing where they lead now.
Hidden Forts is an independent clothing brand of Heffner LLC, a creative studio founded by Gordon Heffner, working across design, photography, audio production, and consulting, where collaborations and projects and other creative fields are welcome
